Smoked Trout Roe
Smoked Trout Roe
Description
Description
Species: Oncorhynchus mykiss
Our Smoked Trout Roe is a vibrant, culinary jewel harvested from premium Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Distinguished by its luminous, translucent orange hue and medium-sized grain, this roe offers a sensory experience that balances pristine freshness with deep, savory complexity.
Cold-smoked in small batches using select hardwoods, the eggs retain their signature firm texture and satisfying "pop" (bite). The flavor profile begins with a clean, mild salinity that gives way to a lingering, sophisticated smokiness—never overpowering, but distinctively present.
Serving Suggestions: It shines equally whether transforming a morning ritual of soft-scrambled eggs or elevating a "high-low" appetizer of salted potato chips and crème fraîche.
Freshness & Storage: To maintain the pristine quality and firm texture of these Oncorhynchus mykiss pearls, proper handling is essential; keep the tin strictly refrigerated between 28°F and 38°F (-2°C to 3°C) and never freeze, as this will damage the delicate casings.
While the unopened product maintains peak freshness for up to four weeks, we recommend consuming the roe within 48 hours of breaking the seal to enjoy the optimal "pop." When serving, always utilize a mother-of-pearl, glass, or plastic spoon, avoiding metal utensils that can oxidize the roe and impart a metallic taste that compromises the delicate flavor profile.

Caviére 101
What is Caviar?
Caviar is made from the eggs of sturgeon, lightly cured with salt using traditional malossol techniques to preserve their natural flavor. Celebrated for centuries as a symbol of luxury, it is typically served as a spread or topping, making it a popular choice for festive occasions or refined indulgence.
Traditionally, the name "caviar" applied exclusively to the roe of wild sturgeon species found in the Caspian and Black Seas namely Beluga, Ossetra, and Sevruga. Nowadays, caviar is also produced through aquaculture around the world, using a variety of sturgeon breeds such as Sterlet, Pacific, and Siberian sturgeon. In broader use, the term may also describe roe from other fish, including salmon and trout.
How long does Caviar stay fresh?
Caviar typically stays fresh in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 weeks if unopened.
Once the container is opened, however, it's best to enjoy it within 1 to 3 days, as exposure to air causes it to oxidize and lose quality.
What does Caviar taste like?
Caviar has a unique and refined flavor that's often described as:
- Briny and salty, but not overwhelmingly similar to the ocean.
- Buttery or creamy, especially with higher-quality varieties like Beluga or Ossetra.
- Nutty or earthy, depending on the type of sturgeon and its diet.
- Umami-rich with a smooth, lingering finish.
The texture is just as important: the eggs should be firm and pop gently in the mouth, releasing their flavor.
Different types of caviar (like Sevruga, Osetra, or Siberian) each have their own subtle flavor profiles. Freshness, salt content (malossol vs. more heavily salted), and origin also affect the taste. High-end caviar is prized for being clean, balanced, and complex rather than overly salty or fishy.
How much Caviar to serve?
We typically suggest serving a minimum of one ounce of caviar per person to ensure a satisfying experience.
Is your Caviar sustainable farmed?
Yes, farmed caviar offers the same health benefits while helping combat overfishing and illegal trade by reducing pressure on wild sturgeon populations.
Raised in clean, controlled environments that replicate their natural habitat, farmed sturgeon are fed a carefully balanced diet, resulting in roe free from pollutants and contaminants.
At Caviére, most of our caviar is sustainably farmed through trusted partners ensuring premium, consistent quality delivered right to you.
