Caviar for Date Night: An Easy At-Home Ritual
Share
Reservations are nice. So is staying in with a tin of caviar, a bottle of something cold, and zero crowds. Caviar turns an ordinary night at home into a real occasion, and it takes about five minutes to set up.
Why caviar works for date night
It's intimate, a little indulgent, and meant to be shared slowly. A single tin becomes an experience you build together, no cooking required. That's the whole appeal.
The easy setup
Chill your caviar and a bottle of Champagne or dry sparkling wine. Set out blinis, crème fraîche, and a couple of mother-of-pearl spoons. Add potato chips if you want to keep it playful. Open the tin together and go bite by bite. Our champagne pairing guide covers which bottle to match to which tin.
Which caviar to choose
For two, a 30g or 50g tin is plenty. Reserve Kaluga ($105 for 30g) is creamy and crowd-pleasing. Imperial Ossetra ($155 for 30g) is nutty and refined. If you want to keep it easy on the budget, Smoked Trout Roe starts at $19 and works beautifully on a chip.
New to it? The Caviar Starter Kit ($235) has three 30g Reserve caviars plus the spoon and tin key in one box, and tasting them side by side gives you something to talk about all night. Try each one as a bump first, before the blinis, to taste the difference clearly.
Want to cook something?
If you'd rather make a proper dinner of it, caviar over buttered pasta takes ten minutes and looks like a restaurant plate. Toss hot spaghetti with butter and a splash of pasta water off the heat, plate it, let it rest thirty seconds, then spoon the caviar on top without stirring. Heat is the one thing that ruins it.
Make it a ritual
The best part is that you don't need a special reason. Surviving the week counts. Shop our tins and kits, packed to order and delivered cold.
