We didn't grow up eating caviar either, so we know how intimidating the first tin can be. The Caviar Starter Kit is the fix: three of our best-selling reserve caviars, 30g each, with the two tools you need to serve them properly. No research, no guesswork, no wondering if you are doing it wrong.
This is a side-by-side tasting flight, and that is the point. Tasting Siberian, Kaluga and Ossetra next to each other teaches you more about caviar in ten minutes than any article can, and it means every tin you buy after this one is a choice instead of a gamble. It is the best caviar for beginners because it does not ask you to pick a favorite before you have tried any of them.
What's inside
-
30g Reserve Siberian Caviar: clean, buttery and lightly briny. The easiest place to start.
-
30g Reserve Kaluga Caviar: our bestseller. Bold, creamy and smooth, with the largest pearls in the set.
-
30g Reserve Ossetra Caviar: the gold standard. Nutty, complex and iconic.
-
Caviére mother of pearl spoon: because metal spoons oxidize the roe and add a metallic taste. Rule number one of Caviére 101.
-
Caviére tin key: to open every tin cleanly, the way it is done behind the counter.
90g of reserve caviar in total. Bought as individual tins, these three alone run $320.
How to serve it
Chill the tins in the coldest part of your fridge. Open with the tin key, spoon the caviar straight from the tin with the mother of pearl spoon, and taste in order: Siberian first, then Kaluga, then Ossetra, lightest to richest. Eat it plain for the first bite of each so you can taste the difference, then build from there with blinis, crème fraîche, chips or a warm potato. No garnish required, and nothing here needs cooking.
Sourcing
All three caviars are responsibly farm-raised through regulated, CITES-compliant aquaculture. Naturally gluten-free, with no additives beyond salt.
Storage
Keep refrigerated on arrival. Sealed tins last 4 to 6 weeks. Once opened, enjoy within 48 to 72 hours. Serves 4 to 6 as a tasting flight, or 1 to 2 people per tin as a generous portion.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best caviar for a beginner?
The one you get to compare against two others. This kit is built specifically for first-time buyers: three reserve caviars, 30g each, plus the tools to serve them. Most people arrive expecting to like Ossetra and leave loving Kaluga. For the full breakdown, read our guide to the best caviar for beginners.
What is the difference between Siberian, Kaluga and Ossetra?
Siberian is the cleanest and lightest, Kaluga is the richest and creamiest with the largest pearls, and Ossetra sits in between with a nutty, balanced profile. Full comparison in our species guide.
How much caviar do I need per person?
Plan on 15 to 30g per person as an appetizer. This kit holds 90g, which serves 4 to 6 as a tasting flight or 2 to 3 generously.
Why a mother of pearl spoon?
Metal reacts with the roe and leaves a metallic aftertaste. Mother of pearl is neutral, so the caviar tastes like caviar. It is included here, not sold separately.
Does it work as a caviar gift?
Yes. It arrives complete and ready to serve, which makes it one of our most popular gifts for birthdays, holidays and housewarmings. Nothing else to buy.
Does the kit include blinis and crème fraîche?
No. This is a pure caviar tasting flight. If you want the full ready-to-serve presentation with blinis, crème fraîche and an insulated bag, take The Reserve Tasting Set.
How is it shipped?
Order by 3 PM CST, Monday through Thursday, and your kit ships the same day for next-day delivery. We ship Monday through Thursday only, and never on U.S. holidays, so orders around a holiday go out on the next available shipping day. Free overnight shipping on orders $89 and over.
Can I have it delivered on a specific date?
Yes. Email us at contact@caviereco.com and we will confirm the ship date, which matters most around holidays.
