How Much Caviar Do You Need Per Person? A Simple Buying Guide
Share
One of the most common questions before buying caviar is simple: how much do I actually need? The short answer is about 15 to 30 grams per person when caviar is served as an appetizer or part of a spread. Here is how that translates into tin sizes.
Caviar serving guide by tin size
- 30g serves 1 to 2 people. Perfect for a tasting or a treat for one.
- 50g serves 2 to 3 people. A great date-night portion.
- 125g serves 4 to 6 people. Ideal for a dinner party.
- 250g serves 10 to 12 people. Built for a celebration.
- 500g serves 20 to 25 people. The choice for larger events.
How serving style changes the amount
If caviar is the star of the evening (a dedicated tasting with blinis, crème fraîche, and Champagne), lean toward 30 grams per person. If it is one of several appetizers, 15 grams per person is plenty.
Which Cavière caviar should you choose?
We make caviar for every palate and budget:
- New to caviar? Try smooth, buttery White Sturgeon or bold, creamy Kaluga Grand Cru. For a guided flight, The Starter Kit includes 15g each of our three Reserve caviars plus everything you need to serve them.
- Want the connoisseur classic? Reach for nutty Imperial Ossetra.
- Looking for our premium grade? The Reserve line, Reserve Siberian, Reserve Kaluga, and Reserve Ossetra, is selected for larger, firmer pearls and a richer finish. Taste all three with The Reserve Tasting Set.
- Curious but budget-minded? Our bold, smoky Smoked Trout Roe is a delicious, approachable entry point, also available as The Smoked Trout Roe Kit.
Buying for a gift or a party
Ready-to-serve sets take the guesswork out of hosting. The Collector's Cut brings together our three signature caviars; The Host Set pairs 50g each of Reserve Siberian and Reserve Kaluga for 6 to 8 guests; and our single-caviar kits (Kaluga, Ossetra, and Beginner Essentials) arrive complete with blinis, crème fraîche, a mother-of-pearl spoon, and a tin key. Add a Mother of Pearl Spoon or Gold-Plated Tin Opener to finish any gift.
Still unsure? Start with a 30g tin or a tasting kit, then size up on your favorite for your next occasion.
